Just before I get into this review, a little context: my fiancée and I chose to stay in Hoi An for two weeks to reset/relax away from our extremely busy lives in Sydney. Our regular driver/tour guide and now wonderful friend Vinh let us know that most people stay in the town for just a couple of days, maybe five or six at most. Anyway, what I’m trying to get at is that we managed to experience a lot of what Hoi An has to offer – more than your usual visitor, I think – and I have to say that our experiences and repeat experiences with the various businesses I’m reviewing were absolutely stellar across the board and all of the people involved were so lovely and genuine (generally). So that’s the base I’m starting with. Visit Hoi An – stay longer than a few days.

My fiancée and I decided on Hoi An as a place to relax – simple. Then I remembered that I’d heard that Hoi An was basically a tailoring Mecca and remembered that I had a wedding tuxedo that needed to get made. I did extensive, *extensive* research for both men’s and women’s tailoring. I wanted the best and I found it at A Dong Silk (‘ADS’).

Before I continue, I want to note that suiting in Sydney is an expensive and often low quality annoyance. I work a job that requires wearing a suit daily and I’ve been fed up with the options available in Sydney (and Australia in general) for a long time. As I said, I did extensive research before I decided on a place to trust with my wedding outfit. The thing that really sold me on ADS was the testimonials of other customers and especially the pictures provided. The best indicator of an excellent tailor is their ability to cater to any body type and make the wearer of their clothes look amazing. If you flick through the ADS pictures within the google reviews, you’ll see this displayed perfectly.

From the moment I walked into ADS, I was certain that I was going to have my wedding outfit made here as well as a few (many) other things. My super tailor/sales extraordinaire, Loan, did an amazing job with all of my crazy ideas (I had many) for both myself and my fiancée. I ended up having my wedding tuxedo, two additional suits (all with two pairs of pants), six shirts and a couple of matching linen outfits for my partner and I to walk around Hoi An in made. My fiancée had a garment that I’m not allowed to know about made as an addition to her already purchased wedding ensemble as well as a little black dress and an additional linen ensemble.

The total cost of these was extremely reasonable and I’ve never – *never* – been as impressed in a suiting experience in Australia as I have at ADS. The girls that helped us out – again, Loan you’re amazing – were so skilled and professional and provided expert input that genuinely made our ideas better. I can’t say enough about how good Loan was – she literally eyed my fiancée up for her linen outfit and produced it perfectly without measuring her at all. The whole process took under a week (I think we had three fittings in as many days) and the final product was (is) spectacular.

Both shops (I’m reviewing both in this one review as we went to both and they’re around the corner from each other) work in unison together and have an infinite variety of fabrics for almost any garment imaginable to be made from. I’m so glad they have my measurements as I’ll definitely be sending away for further items in the (near) future.

I’m just extremely impressed with ADS and, while Hoi An is home to many tailors, I’m confident in choosing and trusting ADS now and in the future and will only recommend them going forward for both men’s and women’s clothing.
