My partner and I visited A Dong Silk Tailors in April 2018. The tailor was on a shortlist of Hoi An tailors recommended by family and colleagues. Phuong looked after me expertly. I had three – actually four – pieces made. A winter coat, a sports jacket and a custom suit (with two pairs of trousers). For the winter coat I showed Phuong and the team at A Dong Silk a photo of my favourite (tired) winter coat. It is in a pea coat style with wide lapels and concealed buttons. Phuong and her team were able to recreate it in a lovely charcoal grey. The sports coat I chose a window-pane check and classic fit. With the suit, Phuong took me through all the fabric choices and lining fabrics. The suit is a soft blue check. They measured me and re-measured and discussed different styles, cuts and fabrics. In the Hoi An climate it was nice to have air conditioned change rooms … particularly when trying on a heavy Melbourne winter coat for the first and final fittings. We returned for a fitting, then to pick up the finished pieces. Phuong and the team were lovely, patient and professional. If you allow a couple of days between your initial visit and pick up, I feel you get the best tailoring outcome. Since returning to Melbourne, I have worn every outfit a number of times. The cost of all the tailoring was very reasonable. Great tailoring and would happily recommend A Dong Silk.
